Chamber Committees

In addition to the other benefits and opportunities of Chamber Membership, the Mitchell County Chamber of Commerce has a number of committees addressing a variety of issues of interest, value and concern to members.  We encourage our members to get more involved by joining one of our committees.  Committees typically meet once per month.

Tourism/Marketing: To promote, develop and coordinate year-round tourism/visitation to the Mitchell County area, and create an awareness and understanding of tourism’s effect on, and enhancement of, the local economy and residents’ quality of life.  Committee members work with staff to develop a Tourism Marketing plan and budget for the year.

Finance/Budget: To oversee the Chamber’s financial statements and review the Chamber’s annual budget prior to submission to the Board.

Membership/Volunteers: The main focus of the Membership Committee is to help recruit new members into the Chamber, from prospecting, developing outreach strategies, and implementing a strategic plan for Chamber development.

An important goal of the Chamber is to represent a range of industries, companies, and to membership remains valuable to members of all types. This committee provides feedback on Chamber programs to ensure that they remain of the highest benefit to members. Members of this committee are encouraged to attend as many events as possible, and to bring prospects as guests to introduce members of the community to the benefits of Chamber membership.

Advocacy & Policy: To advocate Chamber positions on local and state legislative issues of particular importance to the Mitchell County business community.  The Advocacy and Policy Committee develops the Chamber’s annual legislative agenda and advocates Chamber positions.  The committee also maintains regular contact with the N.C. General Assembly Delegation as well as City and County elected leaders.  This committee also plans the Chamber’s Candidate Forums.

Mineral and Gem Festival: To assist in the planning and execution of the NC Mineral and Gem Festival, the Chamber’s only fundraising event.
