This past Friday, the Mitchell County Chamber of Commerce joined with Mountain Community Health Partnership to celebrate a ceremonial groundbreaking for the Spruce Pine expansion—a key step toward a state-of-the-art $17 million integrative health clinic and administrative campus in Grassy Creek, Spruce Pine. The project, beginning on July 18, 2025, will be built on 105 acres and is slated for completion in September 2026

MCHP’s new facility will encompass approximately 27,000 sq ft and will serve as both a full-service clinic and the organization’s headquarters. In addition to primary care, it will offer behavioral health services, in-house pharmacy services, and more—regardless of patients’ ability to pay This expansion aligns with MCHP’s mission of providing accessible, comprehensive health care to families across rural Mitchell and Yancey Counties.

Bill Slagle, Executive Director of the Mitchell County Chamber of Commerce, remarked:

“This groundbreaking is a powerful testament to our community-driven spirit. Mountain Community Health Partnership’s investment is not just bricks and mortar—it’s an investment in healthier lives, stronger families, and a more vibrant Mitchell County. We’re proud to support this transformational step forward.”

Tim Evans, CEO of MCHP, added:

“This expansion will enhance MCHP’s capacity to serve the growing needs of the community and contribute to the overall improvement of healthcare infrastructure in the region,” reinforcing the organization’s dedication to enhancing regional well-being.

The project represents the first in a planned two-phase development on the Grassy Creek site, with anticipated future investment in housing supported by local foundations

The Mitchell County Chamber extends its gratitude to MCHP leadership, the Town of Spruce Pine, state partners, local dignitaries—including Senator Ralph Hise—and community stakeholders for their collaboration in bringing this vision to fruition.
