Nearly 11 months after Hurricane Helene devastated downtown Spruce Pine and destroyed the beloved DT’s Blue Ridge Java, the community gathered in celebration as the restaurant officially reopened its doors with a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Mitchell County Chamber of Commerce.
A large crowd filled Locust Avenue to show their support and excitement, eager to be among the first to step inside and see the beautifully rebuilt restaurant and hug the necks of David, Tricia and Taylor, owners of DT’s. For many, DT’s Blue Ridge Java is more than a place to eat—it’s a gathering spot that has been central to the heart of downtown Spruce Pine for years.
“This reopening is a milestone for our community,” said Bill Slagle, Executive Director of the Mitchell County Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Commission. “DT’s Blue Ridge Java has always been a place where people come together, and seeing it rebuilt stronger than ever is a true symbol of resilience and the spirit of Spruce Pine. The crowd here today shows just how much this restaurant means to all of us.”
The ribbon cutting marked not only the return of a community favorite but also a sign of recovery and renewal for downtown Spruce Pine. Guests enjoyed the first look at the updated space, which preserves the warmth of the restaurant while showcasing its refreshed design.
Owners of DT’s Blue Ridge Java expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming community support throughout the rebuilding process.
The Mitchell County Chamber of Commerce continues to celebrate and support local businesses as they recover and rebuild in the wake of Hurricane Helene.
